So…why am I doing this?
This…the picture above explains why I am doing this. I have had several friends ask me, “Why in the world would you give up bread and cheese?”, and the creators at Whole30 summed it up in a short, powerful excerpt. If you want to keep reading more from this excerpt, click here.
If you are interested in how certain foods impact your hormone function, I strongly recommend the book, “It Starts With Food“. The author breaks down exactly how the program works, as well as why the program is set up in this fashion.
So, currently, I am on the end of day two (I will talk about what I have been eating and how I am feeling after day 3), and let me tell you, grocery shopping was quite the eye opener.
Like I said in yesterday’s post, I already eat pretty clean, or so I thought. Grocery shopping opened my eyes to the amount of sugar in EVERYTHING. Just in case you didn’t know, sugar goes by several different names, and whether you want to believe it or not, sugar is sugar. It doesn’t matter if it is natural or a chemical compound, it hits our taste buds the same way. Melissa discusses it more in her book, so I will spare you the scientific jargon and book report.
Will I cut sugar out forever? Absolutely not, this is temporary. A girl needs chocolate, right? I am trying to break my ties to the “Sugar Dragon”, as Whole 30 participants affectionately call this addiction. So, in order to break myself free from the delicious, addicting, “Sugar Dragon” I am cutting out all added sugar, even Stevia. Sadly, this means no Shakeology for 30 days, but hey, this girl has goals. Trust me, Stevia would still be included if the rules didn’t so clearly state, NO.
On to happier things! This meal plan isn’t all bad, guys. Yes, I just cut yogurt, bread, cheese, hummus, and oatmeal…all things that were a part of my daily diet, but guess what I added back in. BACON, not turkey bacon, real bacon. The only caveat is that it needs to be sugar free. Drumroll please…I get an insane amount of fat per day. We are talking all the teaspoons and blue containers (for you fixers out there). Here is a link that shows you my meal breakdown per day. Try to tell me you aren’t at least a little bit jealous.
Thanks for reading guys! I am off to eat coconut butter and make dinner. Yes you read that correctly….Google coconut butter…you will thank me later!
